Harpies Girls Day

A couple of weekend ago the ALL girl paintball team from France The 'Harpies' organised a “Girls’ Day” where all the girls of French playing paintball teams were invited to participate in a day of training and fun.
The day was held at Starter Park on two Paintball Turf fields.

During the day, they played and learnt from each other’s and shared good techniques, strategies, experiences.

The ICON guys were also on hand to give them some ‘Pro Team’ advices too.

On the evening, there was a dinner at the restaurant of the club (yes the Paintball club has a restaurant) But most of all the day was basically where girls of Paintball shared stories and had some Paintball fun !!

Check out the video… Some great training drills that everyone should check out!

Service Scandinavian Style....

Scandinavia has always been a paintball hotspot with some of the most disciplined and skillful players of recent years emanating from the region. Eclipse are fortunate to have a strong following throughout Scandinavia, largely due to the support and service offered by our network of dealers in the vicinity which includes the likes of specialized companies such as Sissos, Paintball Norge, Wiseguys, Hypersports, Stratec, ED Trading, Powerplay and Copenhagen Paintball Arena. With the popularity of Eclipse markers and products continuing to rise over recent years; two of Sweden’s most recognized paintball players, Mikael “Micki” Manner and Hans “Hasse” Fagerstrom from DOW, have taken it upon themselves to branch out and enhance the level of support that it is available to Eclipse customers throughout Scandinavia by formally establishing Tech Centre Sweden as a universal Scandinavian Eclipse Service Centre.

So what does this mean? Basically think of them like the technical/paintball version of the A-Team! They won’t be able to turn your Ego11 into a cabbage launching machine, but if you have a tech problem that your local dealer cannot assist you with then these are the guys to go to! They already have a full complement of Eclipse Spares in stock ready to bring your marker back to life and following their recent visit to our new HQ in Manchester earlier this month, are now also armed with the most up to date technical knowledge and procedures. Tech Centre Sweden are fully authorized to undertake Warranty work on behalf of Eclipse throughout Scandinavia and have asked that anyone wishing to send a marker into them for repair, downloads, completes and includes the following form with their marker, ensuring that they have contacted Tech Centre Sweden to get a valid RMA number prior to sending:

As well as offering a permanent postal address into which customers can send their markers into as well as various means of contacting them, they also anticipated attending the entire Paintball SM series in 2011 and are actively seeking other events at which they can assist customers with their technical expertise. So tournament organizers in the area; you now have no excuse for not enhancing your events with their presence!

Black Karma season opener !

Black Karma kicked off its fourth season in 2011 at Urban Scenario’s Operation: Nobel Cause at the Alabama National Guard MOUT Range at Fort McClellan in Anniston, AL. MOUT is Military Operation in Urban Terrain or in other words this is where the military trains for urban warfare. The only way to describe paintball at a MOUT site is non-stop, heart pounding intense action. The game is played in a town setting and the gun fights go from the woods to the streets into the buildings and eventually room to room. Another element of MOUT site paintball that differs from other forms of paintball is adjusting to fighting people in third and fourth story windows or on rooftops of buildings while you stand on the street. Just when you adjust to the fighting above you, someone sneaks through the sewer system to get behind you and shoot you in the back. Some of our unlucky opposition learned what it is like when Karma catches up to you and it was not good for them.

Violence is slowly intensifying in the small fictional village of Alma-kurz as the Hammer of Light militia has invaded and taken control of the village. The political process has failed to find a peaceful resolution to allow the militia to coexist with the few remaining Alma-Kurz inhabitants. Black Karma was part of the United Front Coalition tasked with ousting the militia from the village. The game began with the coalition attempting to infiltrate the village but the militia was waiting for us and the battle was on. Much of the first day saw the coalition trying to stamp out the pests on the militia but every time we were about to finish them off they pushed us back just enough to get by for a bit longer. Black Karma spent the day attacking from the flanks and forcing the militia back into the holes they crawled out of. The second day saw the tides turn a bit and the militia really brought the fight to us. The militias change in strategy lead to some intense room clearings and close quarter gun fights. The final battle concentrated all the fighting into one section of the city and Black Karma took up positions in the upper stories of a building and just rained down misery on the militia below. At times there was so much gray MOUT paint in the air it almost looked like fog was settling into the city. At the end of the day, the coalition and Black Karma emerged victorious!

A special paint was utilized for this site as well that had a clear shell and gray concrete color fill to blend in with the buildings and expedite clean up afterwards. Black Karma’s Geo2’s, Ego’s and Etek3’s apparently really liked the paint because we put a great deal of it through them all weekend without any problems. Our Eclipse gear performed great and held up to the rigors of urban paintball warfare. Urban Scenario (www.urbanscenario.com) is planning on having games across the country at other MOUT sites so be sure and check them out if they are in your area! Emortal Army for the win !!

Red Dawn by Jason 'Foolybear' Lineberger

Jason “foolybear” Lineberger has been a member of the Planet Eclipse Emortal army for a few years now. He travels around the USA kicking ass, taking names and then writing about his adventures in the Scenario World. With the spiraling decline in print magazines ‘foolybear’ needed an outlet and what better place to get his word out but on the Planet Eclipse blog… This is the first in what we hope will be many ‘front line’ reports from ‘foolybear’ as he takes his trusty pen and camera along with him to tell the stories of the fallen, beaten and victories alike….

We hope you enjoy.

Paintball Dawning

by Jason “foolybear” Lineberger

Red Dawn: The Patriots by Full Moon Productions

It's 11:59 on Radio Free America; this is Uncle Sam, with music, and the truth until dawn. Right now I've got a few words for some of our brothers and sisters in the occupied zone: “The chair is against the wall; The chair is against the wall. John has a long mustache; John has a long mustache." It's twelve o'clock, American, another day closer to victory. And for all of you out there, on, or behind the line, this is your song. – Red Dawn

Pull on your leg warmers and buckle on an extra Swatch, because the 80s have never left scenario paintball. Eager for a new idea to pit one side against another in the woods, scenario producers jump on the latest trend to rope some new blood into our sport, but for die-hard woodsball veterans, the 1980s have been mined for gem after paintball gem. Barren field with little cover? It’s perfect for The Road Warrior. Good urban terrain? Escape from New York. And no matter what the set-up, that patriotic post Cold War standby, Red Dawn, makes for a sweet backdrop against which missions, role-playing, and a paintball slugfest can be set. Enter Full Moon Productions and Chris “Werewolf” Molles, partnering with Xtreme Kombat to pit those scrappy Wolverines against the Soviet oppressor in a twist on a classic confrontation.

The Russians need to take us in one piece, and that's why they're here. That's why they won't use nukes anymore; and we won't either, not on our own soil. The whole damn thing's pretty conventional now. Who knows? Maybe next week will be swords. – Colonel Andy Tanner, Red Dawn

While this game did feature conventional scenario warfare, Molles took the game in a few new directions. The underdogs for the event, The Wolverines, started in the woods, while the obvious advantage went to the Soviet side, who staged their operation in the midst of Xtreme Kombat’s urban field, an impressive and solidly-constructed paintball village. With thick walls, towers, and high shooting platforms, the Soviets kicked off the scenario in sub-freezing temperatures on the outside contrasting with the warm-fuzzies on the inside as they imagined their foes trying to break their nigh-impregnable fortification.

Additionally, each side enjoyed a sniper-class player capable of making eight single-shot eliminations over the duration of the event. To activate one of these special sniper shots, the player simply needed to point out his target to a referee who would stop that player and ask him to hold up a number of fingers over his head. A matching number from the sniper indicated a hit; giving the snipers the ability to take out key targets at the precise moment when that elimination would do the most damage.

Morale is crucial right now. Keep the men in the secured areas. You'll see how they forget about these "Wolverines." –General Bratchenko, Red Dawn

Unfortunately for the Wolverines, the Soviet forces didn’t play out this paintball scenario to fit that typically American story arc of the rag-tag underdogs who rise up to humiliate then defeat a superior force, nor did they keep to the secured areas. Hardly had an hour of the game elapsed before the Russians released their wickedest weapon, the attack chopper. Rather than your standard scenario helicopter with the ability to insert or extract troops, this one allowed for strafing runs, and since only RPGs could take out the chopper, Wolverines scurried clear like roaches at the flip of a light switch.

The first few runs of the chopper taught the Americans to retreat from an unwinnable battle, and the Soviets began to use it more strategically by rolling in their ground forces behind the chopper’s invulnerable onslaught. Using this tactic, they took the fuel depot, which held tactical significance. The fuel contained there allowed for longer flights, and once the Wolverines figured this out, they came back with a vengeance – and a rocket launcher. Then, once they had effectively grounded their main opposition, the Americans pushed that advantage to overrun one of two fortified areas on the field. First they shot out the Soviets in the guard towers, including one stubbornly entrenched medic who single-handedly kept the defenses running, then they stacked at the entrance before charging through and laying waste to the remaining defenders. With that turn, the game swung from a rout to a closely-contested fight, and with points allocated for both missions and holding key real-estate, both teams began running up the scoreboard.

The game played out much like the movie might-have, had Hollywood writers not scripted the outcome. While it’s uplifting and to have the underdog team rise from certain defeat to triumphantly kick out the oppressor, at this game at least, the Soviet team retained their lead and brought home a red victory. The event also introduced many of the local scenario teams to the Xtreme Kombat field, and it brought out other players for a first-time scenario experience. While it wasn’t a flawless event (what scenario game ever is?), Molles had already started talking about changes he would make to the format before the event ended. With that kind of drive to produce a quality event, look for even better offerings from Full Moon Productions in the future.

Cue music.

Roll credits.

Paintballers 4 Autism fund raiser report...

Donations can be made directly to Paintballers 4 Autism via paypal at pballer4autism@yahoo.com

Sunday January 30th 2011

Written By: Gerry Bates

Paintball is a small community packed with individuals with various levels of talent, skill, motivation and dedication. It is not very often that you hear of Paintballer’s banding together on a common front. Mostly there is fierce competition to be recognized as the Best of The Best. Some say that chivalry is dead. I say different…at least on THIS day!

I was privileged to be invited to attend an event in Connecticut held at D & D Paintball. This event was scheduled as the Paintballer’s 4 Autism 3 Man Open.

PB4A is the brainchild of Mr. Rick Greenaway. This collective effort extends to several of his close friends and family all banding together to help raise money for Autism Research.

I met Mr. Greenaway and was immediately taken in by his humble demeanor. We sat for some time and had some personal conversation about how Autism affects roughly 1 in 96 children in the world. Having personal experience through his 4 year old son Dylan, Rick is doing what he can to help increase awareness and aide the community through various programs he is involved with.

One of these programs is the Paintballer’s 4 Autism program he conceived. Working with several Sponsors within the Paintball industry, PB4A is able to offer Jersey’s, Tank Covers, Barrel Bags, and a number of other specialized paintball products where the proceeds from sales are donated to some of the local outreach programs dedicated to Autism. Out of this, Rick introduced the 3 Man Open event.

For his first effort, Rick had a total of 18 teams sign up to play. Teams like Misfits, Sandbaggers, Menace, Bombers, Identity Creed and Iconik; all typical paintball team names that make you wonder sometimes what would inspire them to participate in an event like this. When asking some of the players…I received astonishingly the same answers! It’s a Great Cause…We’re trying to help our friend.

The event was great. All the teams had a wonderful time, and the fans got to see a lot of great paintball.

Finishes:
4th Team PPS
3rd The Sandbaggers
2nd The Misfits
1st Identity Creed

The Sandbaggers went through the event undefeated through Prelims, but unfortunately dropped one in the finals, pushing them back to 3rd from 1st.

Identity Creed walked away with the Main Prize and 3 brand new Eclipse Gear Bags.

Two sportsmanship awards were also given out.

The Bombers are a young team with absolutely NO tournament experience. They worked hard all day and for their great showing, were given entry to the first NEPL 3 man event in 2011. This was donated by Boston Paintball and Identity Paintball.

The second award went to Jason Gerrish from team Iconik. His Awesome attitude and the way he represented himself and the team was a classic example of what Paintballers 4 Autism is all about.

Overall the PB4A event did amazing in that it was able to raise $1200. The plan is to donate all the proceeds to Autism Speaks and Community Resources for People with Autism. Each to receive $600.

When asked what he thought of the turnout, Rick said: “I am humbled by what the Paintball Community is doing by coming together.”

“Many thanks go out to the sponsors of PB4A:

D&D Paintball, Planet Eclipse, Furious Paintball, Kohn Paintball, Cron Paintball, Identity Paintball, and Josh Silverman and Paintball X3 Magazine, Boston Paintball, Bunker King, ORing Monkey, Social Paintball and PBJunkie.com

Without the additional support of the following, this day would never have been able to come off:

Dennis Frank and his staff at D&D Paintball, David Archibald who made the tournament flow so smoothly, Kevin Conlon and his Referee Staff who gave up their Sunday and donated their time, Mike Sokol...Jack of all trades...gopher and videographer.

Mostly, Thanks go to the Player. You guys are the reason the day was a Great Success. I cannot express my appreciation enough for that. If there is anyone that was forgotten, I am Truly Sorry for that and you must know that you mean a lot to me and what you gave up to make this event one of the best. See you all next year...”

Paintballers 4 Autism will be working in close partnership with several of its major sponsors to bring exciting new ways for paintballers to be able to help this very worthwile charity. Expect more updates soon!
