The First 1st for Ambush

Tiger Ambush is no longer sneaking up on their opponents.  Ambush’s strong season is picking up speed with a First Place finish at the CFOA’s Tarheel Open.  This is the squad’s 3rd podium finish in 4 events, but their very first victory.  Ambush fought through the heat, humidity and stiff competition to push into the playoffs, where they won 6 of 7 games.

Lead by tournament MVP Shaun Rinn, Ambush’s Geo 3’sonce again didn’t miss a beat.  Rinn said, “I play snake, so I put my Geo through some torture when I dive, but it has been a really reliable gun. It’s always ready when I am, no matter what I just did to it.  My favorite part of the day was when I had 5 kills in one game, and I only shot about 15 balls… It is super accurate, and that is what I need when I have such small windows of time to target and fire.”

Team owner Josh Trelease said, “We faced some excellent competition, and I am really pleased with my guys stepping up their game.  Hopefully we can ride this momentum into the next tournament and continue to perform at a high level.  We really grew as a team, and I think it was due to the guys having to endure my vocal stylings at the Karoke Bar the night before.  An experience like that will make men out of boys.  You can subject your team to the same torture:

It might just be the torment that gets your team to the next level too.  Many thanks to Marc, Heather, and Jacko at Planet Eclipse for the excellent gear and outstanding support!”

Heat in the woods???

The best time we’ve had since winning!
Amsterdam HEAT, originally a CPL Sup’air team fell in love again with paintball. As war stories started to dry out, HEAT members Sebastiaan Hoogendijk, David Veltman, Aren van Unen and Adham Laamraoui  took their game back to it’s roots in Dutch scenario competition.  Fully equipped with Eclipse camo gear, ETHA’s  with EMC kits we felt confident heading in to our first 7 vs 7 woodsball series. Arriving on the scene with  ‘all the gear, yet no idea’ we started realizing that just as Sup’air paintball, Woodsball  as a sport also evolved in to quite a serious scene with some serious ballers. We quickly  started to understand the seriousness of our miscalculation. Having no communication equipment, no idea what to actually do, and even not a clue what rules apply for what reason. The heck, we didn’t even really knew how to win a game and by what metric a wins where measured… Fun times…! Luckily, after teaming up with veteran team Madballs, all rules were explained and the concept of the game slowly started to make sense to us rookies.
After misinterpreting the rules, we found ourselves passing the gunchecks with  PSP 3-shot burst mode (FTW!).  Swiftly  grabbed the greatest practise paint we could find( GI 2-star),  loaded up our pods and headed on  the field. Finding the field was easy, the field was  everywhere, the scene was mind-blowing big. Houses, rivers, bridges, valleys, CQB spots and even a mountaintop promised a spectacular day of paintball!

Cocky as we are (sup’air playing snobs), we expected to win & look good in every battle we encountered. The idea was to simply cherrypick a random enemy  on the field, shoot him, and proceed to the next target until there is nothing left to shoot at.  I was rather surprised, to only find HEAT players in the deadbox after I was shot of the break and pulled for what ref called a “hit”….. After a heated but strategic dead box meeting, we made clear to each others that ‘sticking your head in to paint’ is a bad idea in any league…  After 7 minutes of deadbox monologues, we where about to respawn (how cool is that!?!) to play the remainder of the 30 minute game. So let’s  start crouching, hiding, camping and playing possum for the next 23 minutes of gameplay.
Playing on such a big field, with no walky talkies pretty much lead to loosing track of everybody, all the time. We just had to assume that our fellow team members of the Madballs where holding down the fort just long enough for us to make safe trip back. After playing 4 matches, equal to 2 hours (!!!) of playing time, we were both physically destroyed but technically winning! We don’t know how, and what we did in order to win the tournament, but we won! More importantly, we fell in love again with paintball! Till this day, we are trading war stories about our heroic battles.
The day that boys became men!
Thank you paintball for being so cool! Thank you Planet Eclipse for outfitting and equipping us with Etha EMC’s! And thank you Amsterdam HEAT for not taking yourself all to serious!
Yours sincerely,
The Amsterdam HEAT’s men club

Time for a Promotion???

Coming into the 4th event of the federation sanctioned Portuguese National Championships, we knew that it was going to be a key event for us. Having come from a win in the previous event (Our first this season after a much too long string of 2nd places), and having overtaken our rivals and taken the 1st position in the overall ranking, this event was going to be the one where we had to prove that it hadn’t been a fluke, and that we could and would continue to improve and do better and better to get to our objective of winning the series.

Our first game was against team RUSH, in which we managed to execute our strategy well and shoot people off the break, quickly and convincingly achieving a 3-0 win. Our second prelims game was against Metralhas Bronze, and we also managed to play strong and take the 3-0 win. Our last prelims game was also our hardest one in theory, but as we had already guaranteed our qualification to the finals with two flawless wins, we decided that we would take this game to try a couple things before the finals. We took the game 3-1 and got ready for the finals, advancing in 1st place in our group.

Surprisingly, our main rivals Damaiense, failed to make finals this event, which meant that we had the opportunity to solidify our position in 1st place in the ranking. So, joining us in the finals were teams Blue Falcon Squadron, Lisbon Titans and Metralhas Bronze.

Our semi-finals match was VS Metralhas Bronze, we went into the field and lost the first point, and then the second, and suddenly we were losing 0-2 and having to start with 4 for the next point due to a penalty on our last player. Not a good scenario by any means… But then we did what we do best, and we dug deep. We went over our strategy and got ready for what would be our most important point in this tournament, if we lost it we’d be out. And the strategy was clear: shoot a body off the break to even it back up at 4 players a piece, and then slowly work together and win the game from there. And so we did. And then we started playing like our usual selves again, and took the next two points convincingly to win the match 3-2 and guarantee our advancement to the final.

In the final, we faced off against Blue Falcon Squadron, who had beaten us in the past event. But we had watched them play all tournament long and knew exactly what they were doing, and how we would counter it. So we put in our most experienced players and took a convincing win of 3-1, along with the golden cup and the guarantee of promotion to the 1st division next season.

It was a very good event for us, all of us played well, played together and were able to help each other at every step of the way, and that was the main thing, because a match isn’t just won on the field, but also in the pits and on the sidelines. We’re also extremely proud of our young players who’ve managed to come such a long way since the beginning of the season, and had an extremely strong showing at this event. And of course none of this would have been even possible if we hadn’t had the amazing support and equipment that we get from our sponsors, so again: Thank you. From each one of us. We will continue to work harder and harder to deserve your trust and support.

Black Bandits on the way UP !!

14 July 2013, NSC Leg4 - Limabravo

At the end of the season in the Dutch Scenario Competition 2013 the 4 teams with the highest win% will qualify for the Season Finals. And with just 2 legs to go the Bandits were outside the range of qualification. Yes we took the number 1 spot at leg4, but that ranking is based on score. We only won two of our 4 games that leg so we didn’t have enough win% for the top 4 spots on the season ranking.

So we had to harvest wins this leg to boost our season win%. But unfortunately in a leg that was marked as the toughest leg this season. With Fubar, Dutch Scenario Competition champion for consecutive years, one of our biggest rivals Bad Company, new comers Astro´s and the Millenium Sup Air Div1 guest team Aggression it was important to be focused and work our a** off…

The first game against Fubar started promising. We were able to capture the swing base and hold it. But during a sneaky attack by Fubar on our homebase that caught our attention they also captured the swingbase by crawling through the high grass. Thanks to the “time reversal” special we were able to change back the homebase clock without getting shot. And with an attack on our swingbase we were able to take that one back also. It was a great battle that end in a small victory Bandits 52 – Fubar 50. This was not only a good start this leg, we were able to add Fubars first game loss this Season.

The second game against Aggression we made an unusual game plan. We expected some ´aggressive´ duh… play. And we were expecting them in the speedball area to really make use of their sup-air skills. We surrounded the whole place from the bush lines but were supprised to only see a few Aggression players there. But than we realized they have learned and adapted quickly after an unsuccefull first game and they were able to hold the swing and home base and pin us down. We found two specials but it was not enough we lost Bandits 50 – Aggression 60

The third game against Astros we started aggressive after a very disappointing previous game. We were able to win this game with a high score of Bandits 84 – Astros 19.

The fourth and last game against Bad Company where two teams both are fighting for one of the top 4 spots was an interesting one. We didn´t start so well and were not able to capture the swingbase in the high grass area. But we drawed their attention by attacking their home base and were able to push them back to their deadbox. During that time we caught the Swingbase on took some great defending positions. We tried to find specials but were not able to find a single one. So it was a scary situation “did they have all specials?”. A sneaky time reversal on our base where they took 9 minutes pushed us in an uncertain situation. Was it enough for a victory? Thank god it was Bandits 57 – Bad Company 45.

3 wins and 1 loss this day = 75% win and this is what we really needed. At the price giving ceremony this brought us the 2nd price after Fubar, a nice extra bonus! Thanks to this great success we entered the top4 teams in the season ranking and are now positioned as 3rd team.

Thank you Paintballersunit and Madball for the great marshalling. Limabravo for hosting this nice event. Aggression for participating as guest team. And of course our sponsors who make this possible: Planet Eclipse, Hasselhoff Photography, Paintball Supplies, FEJO, Patch-Werk and GI Sportz.

Well Done guys... 1st place is just around the corner :-)
