NXL Europe: They want YOUR input.

Image
Barry Fuggle (Left), Tom Cole (Center), Steve Baldwin (Right) High-level tournament paintball is about to go through another big shake-up in Europe, which can always give players cause for concern and it is very easy to fall into the trap of only seeing the negatives - the doom and the gloom. But I genuinely think this new-dawn for European tournament paintball will be a good thing for teams and players. I’ve been friends with Tom Cole (President of the NXL) for many, many years - ever since his time captaining Bad Company and working for Kingman (Spyder). Over the years we’ve chatted openly about paintball and the good, the bad and the ugly it can often bring. Tom has always been open to my ideas and likewise I have always listened to his often very insightful views of paintball, both past and present. Not only is Tom someone in the industry that I trust, but I also consider him a friend. Since the NXL announced that they are coming to Europe (and a little before that...

OPL Round #4: Ontario Paintball League

Image
The fourth OPL event of 2017 will be one that players will remember for a long time. The Tuesday before the event the league posted a press release stating that the event venue had to be changed from Niagara Paintball Park to Flag Raiders Paintball due to unforeseen circumstances.  Following the press release, the OPL released a letter to the players recognizing the inconvenience that teams may experience as a result of the venue change. They also said that they were "exploring options to assist with players and teams who have been affected". The teams that I spoke to about the assistance they received from the OPL seemed happy with the result. Even with short notice, Flag Raiders did a great job of hosting a total of 56 teams over the 2 day tournament.  New replay technology was added to the Behind the Bunker Broadcast, courtesy of Defcon Paintball and a few others who donated for the new technology. To see live game footage from the event, click the followin...

Techs On Tour: UWL Master - Chicago by Nick Patterson

Image
There is something about tournament paintball and The Badlandz. The soil itself reeks of the legends of the game.  On August 19-20, teams came from all over to play paintball in the UWL International Masters. The weather, surprisingly for Chicago, was perfect. It was sunny and clear with just a light breeze all weekend.  The legendary window and ravine fields of 10-man NPPL fame were back in action, doing what they were always meant to: host a tournament!  The UWL 7-man Masters was everything one could hope for; with thrilling moves, masterful snap shots, nail biting crawls through the high grass, even a little bit of old school arguments about who shot who first (it was Han people). Each had a balanced mix of bunkers and trees that let the action flow nicely. There were teams and players present from all over North America, including Panama and Mexico. Well known professional players, both current and classic, were all over, including members of ...

Beira-Mar Gold: RLA Event # 5 2017

Image
The weekend started in the worst possible way, with the death of our dear friend Sá. Being an extremely active person, who did a lot for National Paintball, very  hardworking, natural distributor, very positive attitude, a boyfriend for Eunice Pinto, a son, a brother, a cousin and friend of many ... But by the words of Javier, during the tribute paid to him at the event, "... He wish we were here to play and have fun ..." and by these parameters we played during the day of September 3, 2017. The first game, AFTER A noshow (2-0), was against Benfica B, a close match, in which the Atlantic Games Beira-Mar Gold, were not concentrating, uncertainties to play, lack of communication, but in the end we had to win and play as we played and took the win 2-1.  Then we would play with the Amarelos, a very competitive team full of talent, they wanted to play their best, and so did we. A difficult 2-1 win. For the last game of the preliminaries, we would p...

Hot sauce committee : Ledz' latest hot sauce

Image
Planet Eclipse. Designers, manufacturers and users of the best paintball equipment on the Planet. And hot sauce. Yep, we also do a hot, and we mean a HOT, hot sauce. And who's behind the hot sauce project? Pretty obvious really. Ledz, who looks really chuffed with the latest one, so we decided to put him under the grill. So, Ledz, a little bird told us that you like chillies and that you’ve just received shipment of your latest batch of chilli sauce. How true is this? I like it a little too much if I'm honest. Everybody thinks because I like hot sauce I like the STUPID hot ones, but that’s not true. I like a good strong flavour and it has to pack a punch but I'm not a fan of the ones that will put you on your knees and make you beg for mercy. What’s your favourite ‘Off the shelf’ sauce? I have two favourites at the moment. Encona special reserve and Habanero Tabasco. Both are hotter than ‘Standard’ sauces but not super hot. These are my everyday go-to sa...

MVPS - Florida by PJ: Techs On Tour

Image
I glance at the weather forecast for Lithia,FL  and rain was definately gonna be present this weekend. Lithia is a small town wedged between Tampa and Lakeland. Due to some changes that happened ubruptly, Maximum Velocity Paintball Series chose this site to host event#3.   Alex Zudell and John Cao have done a great job making MVPS a top event in FL and the southeast region. Florida has always been a state with some great teams.  Saturday morning rolled in and it was a steamer. Humidity was near 90% and temps were expected to reach 92 degrees.. Nearly 50 teams in 3 divisions were signed up to play this weekend. Dead Rabbits, Serious Business, P.T.W., Care Bear Militia and XPX just to name a few that came to do some work.  Tech work started rolling in and with that the rain came down.Players created their own little slip and slide and held a slide competion while games awaited the rain to stop. One guy slid over 20 ft on a perfectly executed superman d...
