Axis and Allies

By Jason “foolybear” Lineberger Pictures by Brett Weaver of PB Uprising  ( www.pbuprising.com ) A rolling cloud of orange smoke obscured the Blue team’s approach.  At least two dozen players, guns up and blazing, drove headlong through the woods hell-bent on reaching the midpoint tower.  Others crawled through the thicker woods along the tapeline, and a flanking force swung wide to provide supporting fire from the field’s center.  As the first Blue runner reached the tower steps, a withering barrage of fire sent him and most of the ones behind him walking for the deadzone.  As the Blue covering fire began to take its toll on the Red defenders, a few Blue runners gained the upper platform and flipped the colors of the building.  Still more dove into the creek bed near the tower and used the cover to gain devastating angles on the entrenched Red shooters.  Within minutes, the tide of the game turned as Blue scored the most valuable piece of real es...

by Jason “foolybear” Lineberger Coverage of “Vietnam Patrol: The Fall of Saigon” a two-day paintball scenario When Andrew “Ferg” Ferguson addressed the hundreds of players gathered for the last in the Vietnam Patrol scenario series, he asked for a show of hands of first timers at Command Decisions Wargames Center. A healthy scattering of hands flew up. “One word of advice for all of you,” Ferg said. “Motrin.” Command Decisions , or CDWC, in western North Carolina, has some of the best terrain for scenario paintball. From their Sim City urban field to the hilltop fort Rex to the trenches of Alpha to the back trails and brush of Ambush Alley, CDWC has it all. The hills combined with the intensity of the competition that the regular teams bring make this field physically demanding. Vietnam Patrol: The Fall of Saigon capped off the long-running series of springtime scenario events that have grown in popularity along with the field’s year-ending finale, the Fulda Gap Mega Game . Were We Soldiers?

by Jason “foolybear” Lineberger On Mothers’ Day weekend Paintball Central’s location in Greenville, South Carolina, opened their gates to welcome in a scenario crowd hungry for action on a brand new field. “Traditionally we’re known as a speedball/tournament facility,” said Ken Barrett, PBC’s regional manager. Ken went on to state that they’re pushing hard to expand to serve the scenario community. Just prior to “We Were Soldiers,” their inaugural two-day event, the staff at PBC constructed a bridge across their pond to open the back acreage, wooded hills bisected by a steep-banked creek. With the addition of some bunkers, a few trails cut through the brush, and a small village of buildings, Central’s already attractive set-up looked that much better to the scenario teams that made the trip. The promise of paintball action drew home squad O.M.E.N., Blue and Deuce from Blue’s Crew, Billy Smith and his group of scenario shooters from Low Country Paintball, members of Wulfenkow, and ...

On The Road Again The Road to No Ends Part II: Hunt for Ruby Red by Jason “foolybear” Lineberger photos by Dwayne Humphries Flashback to 2010 – as the game clock runs down, two generals scramble to unlock the puzzle, literally laid out before them in the form of ceramic tiles on a table. Put together properly, these maps would lead their forces to the location of the final object of the game, the prop whose possession would tip the balance of the outcome. Minutes later, puzzles completed, strings of paint rent the air as the sides converged on the spot where they battled over – a shovel? At least we didn’t have to dig anything up this year, Bill “Greenman” Ford, general for the Hidden. http://www.adventurebeachscenariopaintball.com/ The Hunt for Ruby Red at Adventure Beach picked up where the first game left off, minus any requisite excavation. Attendance swelled this year as both sides drew new scenario squads willing to make the sacrifice of driving to a competitive paintball game...
