Techs On Tour: PJ @ UWL Mexico

Image
https://www.facebook.com/uwlmexico/ Well I am off on another Paintball adventure. I landed in Brownsville, Texas and prepared to make the border crossing with a friend. After about an hour I arrived in Matamorros, Mexico nestled on the banks of the Rio Grande and just 45km from the Gulf of Mexico. Matamorros is now one of Mexico's chief ports of entry for tourists as well as import and export of goods. It is also the commercial center of an extensive cotton and sugarcane growing area. It has tanneries, cotton mills and distilleries.   After about an hour ride we arrived at Area Recon2 Paintball Field. I met with field owner Eder Cabrera and he gave me a tour of the site. Area Recon has 1 Speedball and 3 Scenario fields each with their own concept. Field #1 Medevil Castle is littered with bridges and towers for all the action you can handle. Field #2 is The Alamo which consists of a fortress surrounded by trees and bushes. The objective is to capture and co...

MVPS Round #2

As I embark on my next trip on the list for the 2018 Pro Tech Tour of Events. I go over my checklist to make sure nothing stays behind.  License, cash, debit card, Planet Eclipse tent, stakes for the tent, sides for the tent, table and table cloth. At the last moment realized I was leaving my tools, go figure. After a 3 1/2  hour drive up the Florida coast I arrived in City Island Park located in Daytona Beach. Alongside the park runs the Halifax River. Famous for its bass fishing, links to wildlife preserves, water sports, beautiful beaches and oceanfront communities. But who can forget what Daytona Beach is known for ? Spring Break and the Daytona 500. Two Bucket list events every, never mind. We are here for event #2 Battle at the Beach. Hosted by Maximum Velocity Paintball Series (MVPS)    Since its inception in 2014. Alex Zudell, staff and great refs have put this league at the top in the long history list of Florida Paintball Leagues. Nearly ...

Techs on Tour: CBX by PJ.

As the Paintball season comes to a close. I gather my Tech gear and set off for my last event of the year. In my sights , Sao Paolo , Brasil. Largest city in South America and the Southern Hemisphere by populous. And also the largest Portuguese speaking city in the world. After a brief conversation with Receita Federal (Brasilian Customs). I made my way to Atibaia Paintball Arena about an hour outside the city. Upon arrival I meet with Julio Cesar Lima (Atibaia PB) and Rodrigo Araujo (CBX Organizer) to get a  taste of the local nectar "Banana Cachaca" and a  tour of the field and the modifications in the last stages. Atibaia PB has a Scenario field , Tactical field , and a Airball field. My eyes shined "Lime Green" as I  gazed in amazement at a brand new "Planet Eclipse Ultimate Airball Field".. Hugging the field was the custom Field Wrap Banner with CBX and Planet Eclipse proudly stamped and beautifully matching.  I was truly in Paintball Heaven and ...

Techs On Tour: MXL Final Leg - Mexico by PJ

Image
Bags packed and I'm off to the final event of the  MXL (Mexican Xball League). Arrived in Guadalajara , Mexico about 5pm and made my way to Mexican Customs to meet up with my friends the "FEDERALIS".  After a brief conversation and a thorough search of my baggage and person. I pondered on mixed feelings as I exited the airport.  Apparently I must have looked like a past lover, but the FEDERALI said I was chosen at random. Lucky me, hahaha... Guadalajara  is well known for their Tequila and Mariachi, both born in Jalisco, the state of which GDL is the capital. Its economic base is strong and well diversified , mainly based on commerce and services, although the manufacturing sector plays a key role.  Saturday morning was a cool 54 degrees as the teams began rolling in. Nearly 30 teams signed up for their chance at the podium and some for the series championship. TJ ALLSTARZ , TITANS , RECOIL , SCORPIONS , and  BLACKWATER  ...

MVPS - Florida by PJ: Techs On Tour

I glance at the weather forecast for Lithia,FL  and rain was definately gonna be present this weekend. Lithia is a small town wedged between Tampa and Lakeland. Due to some changes that happened ubruptly, Maximum Velocity Paintball Series chose this site to host event#3.   Alex Zudell and John Cao have done a great job making MVPS a top event in FL and the southeast region. Florida has always been a state with some great teams.  Saturday morning rolled in and it was a steamer. Humidity was near 90% and temps were expected to reach 92 degrees.. Nearly 50 teams in 3 divisions were signed up to play this weekend. Dead Rabbits, Serious Business, P.T.W., Care Bear Militia and XPX just to name a few that came to do some work.  Tech work started rolling in and with that the rain came down.Players created their own little slip and slide and held a slide competion while games awaited the rain to stop. One guy slid over 20 ft on a perfectly executed superman d...

MXL Mexico by PJ: Techs on Tour

Image
Looking out the airplanes window I gaze upon the historical city of St. Luis Potosi, Mexico.. Founded in 1592 with the help of its fabulously rich mines after silver and gold were discovered in Cerro de San Pedro near the city.  Image taken from Expedia.ca Today SLP has become one the main industrial centers in Mexico with a prolific manufacturing industry. The city was named after Louise IX of France(San Luis Rey de Francia) who is the cities patron saint. After exiting the airport and having a brief conversation with the FEDERALIS . I made my way to Tangamanga Park, host of the 3rd leg of Mexican Xball League (MXL) . Event organizer  Arturo Andrade has been working relentlessly to provide Mexico with a top tier Paintball event.  Arturo never disappoints, making sure we have the best fields, best refs, and best accommodations for the players. And with that I set up my booth and prepared for games on Saturday.  Saturday morning rolled in along...

http://viperpaintball.com/events/24/red_strike/ Well  made it to the airport in Miami on time to make my flight to Chicago for the weekend. After a short 3 hour flight I arrived in Chitown. After renting a car I made the hour drive to Hobart,Indiana. Checked into the hotel and prepared everything for the next morning. Showed up on site about 7:00am to find out games start at noon, great.. Well with a bit of time before games I got to looking around and realized I was in an old military base . Blast Camp PB and Airsoft is a historic national landmark. It served in it's hayday as a Nu c ular Missle Defense Base during the Cold War. Owned and operated by Virgil Frey and Kerry (Viper) Rosenberry ,these guys put their souls into this event and it showed. Just short of 600 players showed up for the 24 hour scenario event. I was lucky enough to have a front row seat as I worked on markers. A lot of action went on in the bunkers and radar towers just in front of my ...
