OPL: Final Leg Results.

Image
http://www.playopl.com/   The final event of the season for the OPL was a wild one. In expectance of severe weather conditions, the commissioner posted a press released stating that "in the event of heavy rain, severe high winds or thunder and lightening, game play will cease immediately". Sunday afternoon after the preliminary matches finished, we were hit with winds reaching up to 90Km/h, and rain coming down hard. There was no way matches could continue. Luckily, after roughly 20mins of delay, the rain and wind slowed down to a playable condition. Despite the efforts from all the referees and staff, the field was soaked. It was impressive to see the willingness of the players to dive into puddles and continue playing while head to toe in water, paint and mud, yet still go home with a smile.  D3... After winning the 4th event, Rampage was taken down in a heated Semi-finals match with Attrition. These two teams have been rivals all year long, and it seemed l...

OPL Round #4: Ontario Paintball League

Image
The fourth OPL event of 2017 will be one that players will remember for a long time. The Tuesday before the event the league posted a press release stating that the event venue had to be changed from Niagara Paintball Park to Flag Raiders Paintball due to unforeseen circumstances.  Following the press release, the OPL released a letter to the players recognizing the inconvenience that teams may experience as a result of the venue change. They also said that they were "exploring options to assist with players and teams who have been affected". The teams that I spoke to about the assistance they received from the OPL seemed happy with the result. Even with short notice, Flag Raiders did a great job of hosting a total of 56 teams over the 2 day tournament.  New replay technology was added to the Behind the Bunker Broadcast, courtesy of Defcon Paintball and a few others who donated for the new technology. To see live game footage from the event, click the followin...

OPL E3: July 2017

Image
After a week of heavy rain, the weather couldn’t have been better for OPL E3 hosted at Ground Zero Paintball in Ganonoque, Ontario on July 28 th and 29 th  https://www.facebook.com/Ontariopaintballleague/ After Momentum failed to move passed the preliminary stage in the D3 division, Attrition, led by NXL pro Ben Challenger of the Trade My Gun Outlaws, seized hold of the opportunity and took hold of their first event win. With Dorito side player Klayton Morris attacking relentlessly, and OPL all-star Mark Gawlikowski holding down the middle of the field, the Chargers D3 team were beat convincingly 4-1. While the Chargers D3 team did not manage to top the podium, they still produced their best finish of the season capturing 2 nd place thanks to the coaching of their NXL D2 player Brett Robinson.  In the fight for 3 rd place we saw Kitchener Recon, led by Dynasty coach Rusty Glaze, face the Halifax Hitmen. While these two teams may not have made it to the finals, th...

Ontario Paintball League Season Opener.

Image
https://www.facebook.com/Ontariopaintballleague/ The Ontario Paintball League and Behind the Bunker started the 2017 Canadian paintball season with a blast this past weekend at Flag Raiders Paintball. Clear skies and 20 degrees Celsius was perfect weather for the first event of the year.  D3 Summary - There was excellent play from all teams, but it's evident that the Momentum organization came out to play. Momentum showed a strong push up the middle of the field, and great composure throughout tight situations. During the final match, Momentum had to fight off a last minute comeback effort from Attrition, lead by Ben Challenger and Derek Thompson. Attrition's 'buzzer beating' efforts were no match for Momentum’s consistency, artfully demonstrated by Travis Brake, Zak Carless, David Tandory, and Andre Gravelle.  D4 Summary - Cambridge Raiders played 5-alive, methodical paintball all weekend long, but with the NXL Las Vegas Layout clearly favouring the ...

The Ontario Paintball League recently held Event 2 at Flagswipe Paintball outside of London, Ontario. The weekend was filled with beautiful weather until Sunday afternoon during the finals, when a short, but mighty storm rolled into delay the Division 3 games for 30 minutes.  Despite the wrath of the storm, the games ran smoothly and teams had fun with smiles all around.  Thanks to the great paint from GI Sportz, and amazing teching services provided by Planet Eclipse the Tournament finished without a hitch.
