Is Paintball BACK in Malaysia???

Welcome to the “City of Cats”, Kuching, capital city of the State of Sarawak, Malaysia. Home to the native tribes of Bidayuh and Iban people; land of amazing flora and fauna such as the majestic Rafflesia and the Rhinocerous Hornbill. Where mystic Asia meets the modern world.

Kuching Paintball Open – KPO, was held in conjunction with Proshar and Planet Eclipse sponsored EPS 4th Leg Finale. KPO was organized by Kelab Paintball Mambong, Kuching – KPM and co-presented by Raskal Sports.

The event, now in its 5th season, saw a regional record-breaking participation of 68 teams. What was meant to be just another leg of a local tournament series turned out to be an international event with participating teams from Australia, Brunei and players from Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand. A large majority of teams and players were also local to Sarawak – an amazing show of support for the revival of paintball in the State.

Over the duration of 3 days in conjunction with the Malaysian 62nd Independence Day celebration weekend, KPO saw some intense matches from the teams. Team Raskal took on team Nemesis Legion in the Open Division finals - both of these teams are Planet Eclipse factory teams and have been battling it out for the top spot for the past few seasons. In the end, Team Raskal were crowned 4th Leg Champions, whilst Team Nemesis Legion took the runner-up spot, along with the 2019 season Overall Championship.

The Amateur Division saw favorite local team Cranky Waxerz, a Raskal Sports sponsored team shooting Eclipse markers win the season Overall Championship. Along with its junior team, Hornets Waxerz which is also sponsored by Raskal Sports, winning the Novice Division Overall Championship.

Kuching Paintball Open saw the introduction of Borneo-only Classic Mechanical and Rookie Divisions in M5 format and drew in a huge crowd of teams. Since most of these teams are very new and without paintball markers, KPM and Raskal Sports loaned Planet Eclipse EMEK mechanical markers with PAL loaders for teams and players to use in the Classic Division. The response to the EMEKs were tremendously positive and very well received, whilst the Rookie Division was shooting the Eclipse ETEK5 markers in semi mode.

One team of note, The Cops, a newly formed team without any prior paintball experience, started to play competitive paintball in April 2019 and has done fantastically well to achieve two 3rd place podium finishing in the Classic Division this season. This all began once they used a mixture of EMEKs and M170R’s as well as training with the Eclipse Factory teams. The Cops, creditted their success to their hard work, training and off course, the Planet Eclipse markers.

Kuching Paintball Open was really a milestone in the sense that it kick started the revival of the paintball industry in Sarawak and to be the first paintball tournament to be held in Kuching in the past 10 years. The other achievement is that all the Division’s Champion teams in this events from the Open – Raskal, Amateur - Cranky Waxerz, Novice – Hornet Waxerz, Classic – Ibra Waxerz and Rookies – Mambong Star, used Planet Eclipse markers.

The Closing and Prize Giving ceremony was officiated by the Sarawak State Minister, YB. Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister of Tourism, Art, Culture, Youth and Sports and President of Kelab Paintball Mambong, Tuan Muhammad Morsidi Abdullah

Raskal Sports wish to thank, the Minister YB. Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and Tuan Muhammad Morsidi Abdullah for this opportunity to co-present this Kuching Paintball Open tournament.
